On 12 March 2007 the fourth session of the Human Rights Council (the Council) commenced in Geneva, Switzerland and will last for three weeks. The Council will debate the promotion and protection of human rights around the world. This fourth session of the Council is a particularly important one. The Council’s institution-building working groups will present progress reports; a selection of the special procedures will report on their mandates; and the Council will also determine the action to be taken on country situations under the 1503 procedure. Every human rights organisation will be affected by the decisions that the Council must make at this session, and in the coming months, as the 30 June 2007 institution-building deadline nears. As many Asian organisations will be unable to attend the session, it is critically important that they are kept informed. This webpage serves as an information portal for Asian NGOs and other groups that have an interest in Asian human rights advocacy work. |
